Academic home to 5,800 students, the University of Applied Sciences is one of the largest of its kind in Saxony. It was founded in 1867 as a private technical centre. Today it is under federal leadership. The focus in research and teaching is on mechanical and electrical engineering, while there are also courses in economics, social sciences, and media science.
