The Theological Seminar Elstal was founded under the name "Preacher's School" in Hamburg 1980. Since 1997 the university of applied sciences is located at the educational centre of Elstal. The university is officially state-recognized as well as church-recognized. The aim of the Theological Seminar Elstal is to train preachers for the Union of Evangelical Free Churches. The studies in Elstal has a high academic level, however they are still practically-oriented. Currently, approx. 80 students are enrolled at the Theological Seminar Elstal, which is located in Wüstermark/Elstal (near Berlin).
