The University of Hamburg was founded on March, 28th 1919 and is owned by the Ministry of Science and Research Hamburg. Being the largest institution for teaching and research in northern Germany and the third largest university in the country the University of Hamburg offers a wide range of courses with excellent research possibilities. The university has numerous interdisciplinary courses and belongs to an internationally cooperating network of elite institutions on a regional, national and international level.

Locations
The University of Hamburg is spread among several locations in the city of Hamburg. The main facility of the university with its wing construction is located at the train station Dammtor nearby the main campus including the "Staats- und Universitäsbibliothek Hamburg", the main auditorium and other lecture halls.
