The AMD Academy for Fashion and Design is a state-recognized and private university of applied sciences. It was founded in 2005. The headquarters of the academy is in Hamburg. Further locations of the AMD are in Munich, Berlin and Dusseldorf. Currently, approx. 1400 students are enrolled at the university.

The student represenatives are defending the interests of students on the university level. They are the voice of the students in talks with the university administration or the public. In addition to political and social issues the representation deals with cultural matters.
