The origins of Chemnitz University of Technology date back to the industrial school founded in 1836. In 1997 it was renamed University of Technology. Today, more than 10,500 students are enrolled at the TU Chemnitz, making it one of the largest universities in Saxony. Its eight faculties cover the areas natural sciences, mathematics, mechanical engineering, electrical engineering and information technology, as well as computer science, economics and business administration, humanities and social sciences, and philosophy.
