The University of Konstanz is located south-west from the Island Mainau on the Lake Constance. The University was established 1966 on the so called "grüne Wiese" and was considered as a compact campus university. It is therefore the most southern university in Germany. In the years 2007 and 2012, the University of Konstanz suceeded in all three funding lines of the excellence initiative and belongs to the elite universities of Germany.
