The University of Vechta emerged out of the former pedagogical school which belonged to Osnabrück University till 1995. Today, it presents itself as a small, modern campus university. Priorities in academic education are teacher training and catholic theology. Since its separation from Osnabrück University in 2010 it has acquired additional courses, e.g. environmental science.
