The Hamburg University of Applied Sciences was founded in 1970. Over 13.500 students are enrolled in four faculties (Life Sciences, Business & Social Sciences, Engineering & Computer Sciences, Design, Media & Information) at the university today. Though the HAW is not a comprehenisve university, it offers their students the chance to complete postdoctural-studies under certain circumstances.

The Studentenwerk Hamburg supports students with all issues related to their studies. It offers services for financial matters, social life, accommodation, culture, and food services.

The student represenatives are defending the interests of students on the university level. They are the voice of the students in talks with the university administration or the public. In addition to political and social issues the representation deals with cultural matters.
